Short answer
Most Google ads are reviewed within one business day, so they can start showing quickly. Stable results take longer: Google says a bid strategy typically needs one to two conversion cycles to calibrate, sooner when more conversion data is available.
What happens in the first weeks
- Review: most ads are reviewed within one business day, though complex reviews take longer. Changes to ads or assets restart review.
- Learning: Smart Bidding calibrates to your goal. How long this takes depends on how many conversions you get, how long your conversion cycle is (the time from click to conversion) and which bid strategy you use.
- Head start: conversion data from earlier campaigns can shorten the learning period.
In practice for apps
Give App campaigns enough budget to collect conversions quickly. Google recommends a daily budget of at least 50 times your target cost per install for install volume, or 10 times your target cost per action for in-app actions. Changing goals or bid strategies sends the campaign back into calibration, so batch your changes and judge results over full conversion cycles, not single days.
