Short answer

The minimum is $5 a day. Snapchat sets the minimum spend at $5 per day but recommends $20 to $50 a day, so campaigns can get through the Exploration Phase quickly.

What the Exploration Phase is

When a campaign launches, Snapchat’s system works out which people in your audience are most likely to respond. Snapchat says this typically takes 4 days or more, depending on the campaign objective. A very small budget gives the system little to learn from.

Budget guidance for app installs

  • Snapchat’s app install setup guide suggests budgeting at least $30 a day.
  • It also suggests running the ad for at least 15 days so the exploration phase can do its job.
  • Use the App Installs objective, and track results with a mobile measurement partner and SKAdNetwork for iOS.

In practice

A $5 budget can technically run, but an app campaign needs enough installs or in-app events to optimise. Set the budget from your target cost per install or per event, give it the full exploration window before you judge it, and compare Snapchat with other channels on cost per retained user.
