Short answer
Sign in to Google Ads, click your profile photo in the upper right corner to see your accounts, then select the delete icon next to the unfinished account. Google says this permanently removes it, even though setup was never completed.
Cancelling a fully set up account
- Go to Admin, then Account settings.
- Open the Account status section and select Cancel my account.
- Only users with Admin access can cancel an account.
What happens after you cancel
- All your ads stop within a day.
- Any unused prepaid funds are refunded automatically to the original payment method. Google says this usually takes 4 to 12 weeks, including bank processing time.
- You can track the refund on the Billing summary page.
- If you want to advertise again later, you can reactivate a cancelled account instead of opening a new one.
In practice
App teams often end up with stray accounts after a test or an agency handover. Before you delete or cancel anything, check which account holds your conversion tracking and app links, so you do not remove the one your live campaigns depend on. If the history may be useful, cancel and keep the option to reactivate rather than starting over.
