Short answer
Google reviews your ad's headline, description, keywords, destination, images and video against Google Ads policies. Most ads are reviewed within one business day. Ads that pass become Eligible to run; ads that break a policy are Disapproved.
The four policy areas
- Prohibited content: what you cannot advertise at all, such as counterfeit goods or dangerous products.
- Prohibited practices: what you cannot do, such as abusing the ad network, misusing data or misleading people.
- Restricted content and features: content allowed only with limits, such as alcohol, gambling, healthcare, political and financial services ads.
- Editorial and technical: quality standards for clear ads, working destinations and format requirements.
How the review works
- Review starts automatically when you create or edit an ad.
- Editing an ad or asset during review restarts the review.
- If an ad is still under review after a week, Google suggests contacting support.
In practice
For apps and games, check the restricted content rules before launch, because gambling, financial and health apps face extra limits by country and audience. Keep ad claims in line with what your app store listing and landing pages show, and avoid editing assets while they are under review.
