In short

An ASO checker, also called an ASO audit tool, analyzes an App Store or Google Play listing and shows how to improve its visibility and conversion. Admiral Media’s ASO Checker looks up your real search positions for the terms in your title and subtitle, finds keywords top competitors use that you don’t, shows which screenshots people see first, groups recent reviews by complaint theme and ranks every issue by priority, using only public store data. You get an ASO score out of 100 with a grade from A to E.

What you get

What the ASO Checker analyzes

Five parts of your listing, each with the evidence we found and the change our ASO team would make.

App keyword rankings

We search the store in your chosen country for up to eight terms from your title and subtitle (or short description) and show your exact App Store position in the top results (a range below that), plus who leads each search.

“meditation” #2 · “sleep” #12 · brand #1

Keyword ideas and gaps

Live App Store autocomplete suggestions for your core terms, and the words that three or more top-ranking competitors put in their names while your listing doesn’t.

Competitors use “tracker” (6 of 10) and “sounds” (3 of 10)

Screenshots

Your screenshots in the order people see them, the first ones highlighted, with orientation, iPhone size and whether you have a preview video.

Ratings and review themes

The full star breakdown, and the complaints that come up most in your latest App Store reviews, with a real example of each.

Competitors

How to use your ASO report

  1. Start with high priority

Findings are ranked by likely impact. A title term you don’t rank for or a recurring review complaint usually matters more than a missing video.

  2. Check it against your data

Open App Store Connect or Play Console and confirm the search terms and traffic sources behind the finding before you change metadata.

  3. Change one thing, then measure

Test screenshots with Product Page Optimization or Store Listing Experiments. For metadata, compare search installs for four weeks before and after.

What the report can tell you

  • Search positions for the terms your listing already targets
  • Keyword ideas from real autocomplete and competitor names
  • Screenshot basics: count, order, size, orientation and video
  • Review themes and the full rating breakdown
  • Localization and freshness for the market you picked

What public data can’t show

  • Search volume and the installs each term brings
  • Your private keyword field on the App Store
  • Conversion rates by traffic source
  • Paid traffic and its effect on your listing
  • Revenue and user quality
Methodology

Where the data comes from

Every number in the report comes from a public store source, checked live when you run it. Each app and market keeps one snapshot for up to 12 hours, so two checks in a row match.

ASO score

How the ASO score works

Every report starts with a score out of 100, built from the four areas of an ASO audit. Each point maps to something the report shows.

The four parts

  • Search visibility, 40 points: how many title and subtitle terms rank in the top 10. A top 3 position counts fully, the top 50 a little.
  • Store page, 25 points: how many screenshot slots you use, plus a preview or promo video.
  • Ratings, 20 points: your star rating, and how many ratings you have next to the top apps for your main term.
  • Upkeep, 15 points: how recently the app was updated, whether the release notes say what changed, and whether the listing is localized for the market.

Grades: A from 85, B from 70, C from 55, D from 40, E below 40.

ASO audit checklist

  1. Your title and subtitle (or short description) carry your main search terms, not only your brand.
  2. You rank in the top 10 for those terms in every market you target.
  3. You use every screenshot slot, and the first three captions state the main benefit.
  4. A preview video (App Store) or promo video (Google Play) shows the app in use.
  5. Your rating matches or beats the top apps for your main term, with steady new ratings.
  6. The complaints that recur in recent reviews are fixed and answered.
  7. The listing is localized for every market you run in.
  8. You update at least monthly, with release notes that say what changed.

FAQ

ASO Checker questions

What is an ASO checker?

An ASO checker analyzes an App Store or Google Play listing and shows how to improve its search visibility and conversion. Admiral Media’s ASO Checker reports your real search positions, keyword ideas, screenshots, review themes and top competitors, and ranks every issue by priority.

What is an ASO audit?

An ASO audit is a structured review of an app’s store listing: the search terms in its title and subtitle, where it ranks for them, its screenshots and video, its ratings and reviews, and how up to date and localized it is. The ASO Checker runs these checks from public store data in about 20 seconds. A full audit by our ASO team adds search volume, your App Store Connect or Play Console data and a test plan.

How do I check my app’s keyword rankings?

Paste your App Store or Google Play link, pick the country and run the check. The report lists up to eight search terms from your title and subtitle with your position for each: the exact App Store position in the top results, a range below that, and the app that leads each search.

How is the ASO score calculated?

The score adds up four parts: search visibility (40 points), store page (25), ratings (20) and upkeep (15). Grades run from A (85 or more) to E (below 40). It is estimated from public store data, with one snapshot per app and market refreshed every 12 hours.

Is the ASO Checker free?

Yes. The summary and your top fix show instantly with no store access needed. Confirm your email once to unlock the full report, including search positions, keyword ideas, review themes and competitors.

How accurate are the keyword rankings?

Top positions come straight from the App Store’s own search results for iPhone in the country you choose, so they match what people see in the store. Lower positions are estimated from Apple’s search API and shown as a range, not an exact number. Google Play positions come from its public search page. Results can still vary by device, account and location, so treat them as a snapshot.

Does it analyze screenshots?

Yes. It shows your screenshots in the order people see them and highlights the first ones: the three that appear in App Store search results, or the first on your Google Play listing. It also checks how many you use against the store maximum, their orientation, the iPhone display size and whether you have a preview or promo video. It does not read the text on your screenshots, because automatic text reading misreads stylized fonts too often; our ASO team reviews captions by hand.

Can it see my App Store keyword field?

No. The keyword field is private to App Store Connect. The checker works with your title, subtitle, description and other public fields, so terms you only target in the keyword field are not shown.

Does it work for Google Play and other countries?

Yes. It covers the App Store and Google Play in 28 countries and 18 listing languages. Review themes come from the latest App Store reviews, next to the reviews Apple shows on your product page; for Google Play it shows the rating breakdown, the install range and the reviews Google Play shows on your listing.

How are the priorities decided?

Each finding is ranked high, medium or low by likely impact. A title keyword you do not rank for, or a complaint in a fifth of recent reviews, is high priority. A missing preview video is low.

How often should I check my listing?

After every metadata or screenshot change, and at least once a month. Search positions move week to week, and competitors change their listings too.

Can Admiral Media help with the next steps?

Yes. Our ASO team turns the report into keyword research per market, screenshot tests and a 90-day plan. Managed ASO starts from €2,900 per month for one app on both stores in one market.
