A safe, ad-free home for Bible-based games

TruPlay is a Christian app for kids aged 4 to 12. One subscription gives a family Bible-based games, comics and videos, with up to 10 child profiles and no ads, chat rooms or in-app purchases.

Families who already know TruPlay ask for it by name. This pilot was about the parents who don’t: when they ask an AI assistant for a safe Christian app, does TruPlay come up?

  • Ages 4 to 12
  • Up to 10 child profiles
  • No ads or in-app purchases
  • Games, comics and videos

The challenge

Parents who knew TruPlay found it. Everyone else rarely heard of it.

Most parents don’t start with a brand. They ask which Christian apps are safe, what a kids’ app costs, or what to give a grandchild who loves games. In the pilot’s first week, AI assistants answered those questions without TruPlay nine times out of ten.

The issue

AI named TruPlay when a parent asked for it by name, and rarely when they didn’t.

99%

of AI answers name TruPlay when the question already does

16 questions that mention TruPlay by name. These were already won.

10%

when the question names no brand

29 parent questions in the first week. TruPlay ranked 7th of 13 apps.

Why it happened

Three reasons AI left TruPlay out

Reason 1

No page on truplaygames.com answered the buying questions

None stated the price, said plainly that the app is ad-free, or compared TruPlay with the apps parents weigh it against. One review site AI quoted often ran the headline that the price is not published.

Reason 2

Rivals gave AI more to read

A leading rival had more than 1,850 pages in Google and its price in plain text. TruPlay had 165 pages, so AI answered parents' questions from other websites.

Reason 3

The answers AI quoted did not name TruPlay

AI already read some of TruPlay's blog posts, but those posts answered the question without mentioning TruPlay, so the answers built from them did not either.

What we asked

The questions parents ask, asked every day

We wrote 50 questions a parent types before they know which app they want, in 12 themes, and put them to six AI assistants every day. Below are the 29 that ran from day one, so every before and after compares like with like.

How we chose the questions

  1. Follow the buying journeyWhat a parent asks before choosing an app: price, safety, ads, gifts and how apps compare.
  2. Check the demandAI assistants don't publish how often a question is asked, so we checked the set against what parents already search for on Google.
  3. Ask like a parentNo brand in the question and no near-duplicates. Questions that echoed TruPlay's own wording were replaced on day 12.

What we did

Sixty days, three steps

Nothing here was paid placement. Every change was made on TruPlay’s own website, in the order that would move the most answers first.

Step 1, 14 to 27 Aug

Measure

Daily tracking on six AI assistants, a baseline on the questions parents ask, and an audit so the questions measure the market rather than TruPlay's own words.

Step 2, 28 Aug to 30 Sep

Fix what TruPlay owns

Plain pages for the questions parents ask before paying, TruPlay named inside the pages AI already quotes, and a short map of the site for AI systems.

Step 3, 1 to 12 Oct

Fill the gaps

Price, family-plan and gift answers, album updates for the release, then the day-60 read on the same 29 questions.

Why this matters

When AI quotes TruPlay’s own pages, it repeats TruPlay’s facts in TruPlay’s words: the real price, the ages, no ads, no chat rooms.

In week one, AI quoted truplaygames.com 218 times on these questions and ranked it 7th. At day 60 it was quoted 494 times, behind only one other website.

FAQ

Questions we get about this pilot

What is AEO?

AEO, answer engine optimization, makes sure AI assistants like ChatGPT, Copilot, Perplexity and Google's AI Overviews name your brand, and quote your own website, when people ask about your category.

How long did it take to see results?

The share of answers naming TruPlay was flat for the first four weeks while we measured and wrote, started rising in the second week of September as the first new pages went live, and reached 15.9% at the day-60 read, up from 10.1%.

How did you choose the questions?

We started from what a parent asks before choosing an app: price, safety, ads, gifts and how apps compare. AI assistants don't publish how often a question is asked, so we checked the set against what parents already search for on Google. Each question is written the way a parent types it, with no brand named and no near-duplicates, and on day 12 we replaced the questions that echoed TruPlay's own wording.

Which AI assistants did you track?

ChatGPT, Microsoft Copilot, Perplexity, Gemini, Google AI Overviews and Google AI Mode, in the United States, every day.

Did TruPlay pay to appear in AI answers?

No. Every change was made on TruPlay's own website: pages AI can read, plain answers to the questions parents ask, and clean signals about which page is the right one.

How do you know the work made the difference?

We read the same 29 questions in the first week and at day 60. The AI answers now cite the pages we wrote, the questions that got a new page rose the most, and none of the 12 other apps we track moved by more than 2.1 points. Some of the lift was general: questions without a new page rose too, by less.

Can you do this for my app?

Yes. We start with a baseline on the questions your customers ask, across six AI assistants, then fix what you own first. Book a meeting below and we will show you where you stand.
