What is app store optimization?
App store optimization (ASO) is the practice of growing the rank, click-through rate and install conversion of a mobile app on the Apple App Store and Google Play. It combines keyword strategy, store creative, metadata and continuous A/B testing of the listing.
What does an ASO agency do?
An ASO agency owns your store listings as a growth channel: it researches keywords per market, writes and updates metadata, produces and tests store creative, builds Custom Product Pages and custom store listings, and reports what moved. At Admiral Media one senior ASO specialist runs all of it for your app.
What does Admiral Media include in its ASO service?
Two monthly services. ASO Discovery covers keyword research and metadata for the App Store and Google Play, updated on a rotation plan. ASO Conversion covers store creative and native A/B tests on icons, screenshots and other store assets. A senior ASO specialist sends a written update every week and meets you every month to review results against peer benchmarks.
How much does an ASO agency cost?
It depends on the scope: how many stores and store-locales (one language version of one store listing) are covered, how many metadata updates go live each month and how many store tests run at once. At Admiral Media you get the fee for ASO Discovery, ASO Conversion or a one-time ASO Audit in a written proposal after a 30-minute call. Our ASO pricing guide explains what drives cost.
How long does ASO take to show results?
Metadata changes usually take a few weeks to show in rankings and search downloads, because the stores need time to index them and collect traffic. Creative tests need enough traffic to reach a result, often two to six weeks per test. Your 90-day plan sets the first milestones.
What access do you need?
Read access to App Store Connect and Google Play Console, so we can see impressions, page views, conversion and downloads by source. You add us as a user with the role you choose; we never ask for passwords. Nothing goes live on your listing without your approval.
Should I run ASO in-house, use a tool, or hire an agency?
ASO tools give you keyword and competitor data, but they do not decide what to change or produce the creative. An agency makes sense when you need someone to own the keyword strategy, write the metadata, produce store creative and run tests every month. If you already have an in-house ASO lead, our In-house enablement option trains your team instead: a workshop, an audit with a metadata update and six monthly check-ins.
Is an ASO agency different from an ASO consultant?
A consultant usually advises and your team does the work. A managed ASO agency does the work: metadata, creative, tests and reporting, with a specialist accountable for results. Admiral Media offers both: managed ASO, or an ASO Workshop and In-house enablement if you want advice and training for an in-house team.
How long is the contract?
Retainers have a 6-month initial term, then run monthly with one month’s notice. There is no setup fee: month 1 covers the onboarding audit, your baseline and the rotation plan. Audits are one-time projects.
Do you cover both iOS and Android?
Yes. Admiral Media runs ASO across the Apple App Store and Google Play, including title, subtitle, keyword field, short and long descriptions, screenshots, icons, Custom Product Pages, custom store listings and in-app events.
How does ASO improve paid user acquisition?
Every paid click lands on a store page. A higher store conversion rate lowers your cost per install across every paid channel, and keyword-linked Custom Product Pages let each Apple Ads keyword group land on a page built for that intent.
What apps does Admiral Media work with?
Subscription apps and mobile games with real store traffic. Examples include NeuroNation in Korea, with +93% App Store search downloads, and Custom Product Pages for ImmoScout24 that cut buyer CPA on Apple Ads by 43%.
How is ASO different from SEO?
SEO targets web search engines like Google. ASO targets in-store search and discovery on the App Store and Google Play. The keyword logic, ranking signals and conversion metrics are all native to the stores.
Should we hire an ASO agency for a one-time audit or a retainer?
Choose the one-time ASO Audit, with or without a metadata update, if you want an outside view, are about to switch partners, have just changed your product, or have too little store traffic to test every month. Choose a monthly retainer if you have steady traffic and several markets: ASO Discovery, ASO Conversion or both. If you sign a retainer within 30 days, 50% of the audit fee is credited.
How do we know if our app has enough store traffic for A/B tests?
Native store tests split your product page views between variants, so the test needs enough page views to reach a result in a few weeks. We check your App Store Connect and Play Console numbers per market in the first weeks. Where traffic is low, we focus on keywords and metadata and test bolder creative changes less often.
Can you review our listing before we switch ASO partners?
Yes. The one-time ASO Audit reviews your keywords, metadata, creative and test history without changing your listing, compares you with 5 competitor apps per market, 3 of them in depth, and gives you a 90-day roadmap you can use with any team.
How do you measure ASO success?
With store data: impressions, product page views, conversion rate and downloads by source from App Store Connect and Google Play Console, plus keyword positions per market. For paid traffic we also track the conversion of each Custom Product Page. Rankings alone are not the goal.
