Short answer
Snapchat advertising works when your audience is on Snapchat and the campaign has enough budget and time to learn. For app installs, Snap's own setup guide suggests at least $30 a day for at least 15 days.
When it tends to work
- Your users match Snapchat’s audience. Snap reports 971 million monthly active users, and in the US it says half of Snapchatters are over 25.
- You can supply short vertical video. Snap’s install guide suggests 3 to 5 second videos with one key message, and notes that two thirds of Snaps play with sound on.
- Your tracking is ready: a verified Snap App ID, a mobile measurement partner (MMP) and SKAdNetwork for iOS.
Snap’s two-step install plan
- First ad: App Installs objective with the Impressions goal, aimed at a Customer List audience, so the system learns who installs.
- Second ad: App Installs objective with the Install goal, aimed at a Lookalike of that list.
In practice
Most failed Snapchat tests stop too early or spread a small budget across too many ad sets. Fund one clean test, leave it alone through exploration, then judge it on cost per retained or paying user in your MMP. If a game needs players who complete a level or buy, build a Mobile App Custom Audience from those in-app actions.
