Is Snapchat good for advertising?
Short answer
Snapchat is good for advertising when you need to reach its audience. Snap reports 971 million monthly active users, and in the US it says half of Snapchatters are over 25 and open the app 30+ times a day.
What Snapchat does well
- Full-screen vertical ads: Snap’s image and video formats run in 9:16, so the same short video assets you make for other mobile platforms carry over.
- Formats you cannot get elsewhere: AR Lenses and Filters, and Sponsored Snaps delivered to the Chat tab.
- Performance tools: the Snap Pixel, Conversions API, app attribution through mobile measurement partners and SKAdNetwork.
Where it is weaker
- Small budgets struggle. Snap’s minimum is $5 a day, but it recommends $20 to $50 a day to get through exploration.
- Results depend on fresh creative built for the platform, not resized assets.
In practice
For apps and games, Snapchat is usually a second or third paid channel after Meta and Google, worth testing when your users skew towards its audience. Fund one test properly, hold changes for the first 4 days, and keep it only if cost per retained user beats your other channels.
